who processes all the coupons we get? is there someone at target that separates them and sends them to the manufacturer? That has to be an extremely tedious job. I bet they farm it out.
 
I have yet to see those coupons, either. They all generally say, "redeemable at Safeway" or whatever store. I have never seen it with the word "only" in there. If the word "only" isn't in there, you need to take the coupon, because it's a legitimate manufacturer coupon.
coupons.com sometimes has them. They currently have one for BOGO Mio that is redeemable ONLY at Family Dollar, but most just say "redeemable at..."
 
Annoying coupon fraud lady today. Photocopied coupon.com coupons $7-$10 each. I pointed that out and she made me take the items off and grabbed the coupons back and would not let me throw them away. I explained about coupon fraud and that Target does not get reimbursed when the identical printed coupon is submitted. She also had a few newspaper ones that were for 70 count or above when she was getting 10 count. She also had a few bogo dog treats. She paid for what I let her use on a gift card that had over $400 on it. I tried to put on my light to let the gstl know but we were very busy at the time. I saw her 15 minutes later at Guest service returning all of the coupon items she bought including the BOGO that she never intended to keep. She walked away with at least $30 today and will probably do it a few more times this week. I am thinking about writing right over the barcode photocopied coupon not valid before pointing it out to the guests next time.

An easy way to tell if a printable coupon was copied is to look at the serial numbers, if the coupon has them. On most coupons, they will be in the upper right corner.

If the serial numbers are the same, it means the coupon was photocopied.

They ARE weighed. Therefore, according to my store's management we can and do accept expired coupons. Only exception is if when you scan the coupon and you get red screen telling you that the coupon is expired.
Don't understand why that makes a difference since it's months before the clearinghouse actually processes them.

The Crazy Couponer (or, how I learned to stop worrying and love the ETLs)

So basically this woman (I have no idea her name so we're gonna call her CC, short for Crazy Couponer) has been coming to my store for ages. I've been there 9 months and she was literally one of my first guests and already knew the drill so it's had to be at least 2 years. She comes in once every two weeks, sometimes more, with stackloads of coupons. Some completely legit, some legit coupons but not used for the correct product, some fraudulent coupons, and a lot of free item coupons that were legit (hologram and all) but impossible for her to ethically and legitimately obtain.

For a while, she would go to any cashier, but only certain ones who she knew weren't paying attention or to newbies/people on backup. If you challenged her coupons she'd get irate and either bully you into taking them or demand to see a manager. Then the GSAs and (E)TLs got sick of her shit and started making her only go to GSA's, TL's, or ETL's to check out. These transactions would take at LEAST half an hour, but I've seen her there for 45 minutes to an hour.

Tonight she came in for time-

#1 was around 5:45. I wasn't there for that because I was on break.

#2 was around 7:00. Had three cartloads of stuff- mostly HBA, some toilet paper and paper towels because we currently have a 'Buy 3 of marked items get a free 6pack of Bounty'. GSTL dealt with her. Transation took about half an hour, and ended with her leaving a cartfull of stuff she 'didn't want' because GSTL had rejected her coupons. She also got called out for parking her car in the fire lane and the GSTL told her she needed to move it or it would be towed.

#3 was around 8:00. GSTL had just gone on lunch, barely missing compliance. I was watching the lanes. LOD deals with her. Said LOD is a terrifying woman. She is super strict and it's basically a right of passage to have her make you cry. LOD deals with CC while I deal with other guests at guest service and run around to check on flashers and do photo and all that other fun stuff. Transaction takes a long time- about half an hour/45 minutes. CC complains because LOD is being 'rude' to her and other stuff, and GSTL of 'hiding' from her (despite being repeatedly told 'she's on lunch, she had to take a lunch'.) At one point the entire display of gift cards comes crashing down and I have no idea if she did this out of anger or as an accident.

Finally she gets fed up and calls corporate and leaves her two cartfulls of stuff for us to put back, in the meantime blocking the entire path to guest service. We put the back.

I should note at this point all the cashiers were told, explicitly or implicitly, they are not to check her out, but after I returned from break GSTL told me very explicitly "You are not to check out CC. Only I and LOD are to check her out. If she comes in again, call for us."

#4, was at 10:15. We were fucking slammed with returns, return frauds, reshop, etc, and I have barely even sent the defectives back. I'm ready to go home and cry at this point. She pulls up her cart to guest service, I'm trying to tape boxes and load them up to the pallet so I reach for the walkie and she gets instantly upset

"DON'T CALL FOR GSTL OR LOD I CALLED AND COMPLAINED IT'S MY RIGHT TO BE CHECKED OUT BY WHOEVER I WANT"

I tell her straight up "Ma'am I have been told I am not allowed to check you out, before I do anything I have to speak to a manager." I walk over to the TSC which is right off the lanes and radio for GSTL, and tell her what's up. She's in the cash office and tells me she'll be out soon. I'm paniciking, and at which point I tell the closing Cashier who i'm also training for service desk to tell her we will be with her shortly . I also spoke to the Starbucks closer who, apparently, was harassed by her as well and was writing a report of what happened. I tell LOD what's going on as well I go back out there, tell her GSTL will be with her shortly, CC informs me she's on the phone with corporate and been filming us and will put the video on the internet to put us on blast. I just try to ignore her and tell Cashier how to box up defectives because I'm so goddamn far behind and I go to check on GSTL, who I cannot find (I learn later she was on the phone with the ETL-AP asking him what we could do). I'm shaking and having a panic attack, the GSTL is visibly shaking and her voice sounds like she's ready to punch CC.

15 minutes later, CC evidently gets fed up and gets in line of a brand new Salesfloor TM who's up on backup, at which point I get on walkie, demand LOD and GSTL come to the front, and LOD pretty much runs over. I don't know what happens at this point because I focus mostly on my GSTL, who's shaking so hard and is on the phone with the police, and our ETL-AP. The cops show up, and after a pretty heated conversation she is escorted out of the building.

(bonus story- my ride was waiting in the parking lot as this was happening. She was arguing and being rude to the police officer, who towards the end pretty much straight up asked her if she had a weapon in her purse because of her attitude and he "he didn't want to get shot".)

(double bonus- GSTL: "We're going to leave on the pop machine tonight." LOD: "Can we add alcohol?")

Spot is private property. Mgt can tell or ask them leave the store at anytime. Yes, I will do it with a big smile, after I got the ok from my lod or stl. Yes, I will inform AP, too. So they can get pictures.

They are chicken shit. Much like a STL/ETL GE I have to deal with.
 
If that happened at my store, we'd be screaming for an LOD & all we'd hear are crickets.
Then later we'd get reamed out for not handling it properly, enforcing policy, failure to Vibe, etc.
I'm just glad I can use my discount on beer.
 
I have a tendency to get extreme couponers that are bullies. It's annoying. They think they can push me bc I am young. Ha.

I once had a female couponer who tried flirting with me to distract me while I was on back-up. She claimed to have $20 off coupons for some phones. Said coupons had no pictures. Needless to say I denied the coupons.

I'm glad that our ETL-AP is on top of things and we have support from the ETLs about this kind of stuff. Not so sure about STL, never had to deal with him and a couponer.
 
i had a guest the other day buy 12 huge bags of cat food but i had to do 6 separate transactions for all of them because with every 2 bags she got a 5 dollar gift card, plus she has two coupons with each transaction PLUS two rebate checks for each transaction. i mean i understand if you're trying to save money but i'm a lot more understanding when i'm off the clock...

This is the rule for coupons:

Limit of 4 identical coupons per household, per day (unless otherwise noted on coupon).

...so, she would have been pissed if she had been on my line. Was she using each $5 gc she got for the next transaction? I can understand separating them for that purpose. If she wasn't, I *think* for each 2 bags you scanned, the POS would have prompted you to scan another gc. I dislike transactions like that because it slows you down.
