So I am wondering if you get a voice mail on your day off and you can't work is it a definite that you have to call back and let them know you can't? Or just call back if you can? I'm asking because I called to let the LOD know I couldn't come in that day and she seemed fine with it but also seemed like I bothered her just to say no. So I don't know if you call back either way or just if you can? I assume they're calling multiple people and not just me.

Usually it looks better if you call back and let them know that you can't work as opposed to ignoring it. Although usually I can just let the HRTM know that I can't come in, it usually doesn't have go to the LOD.

If you are off you are off. You are not on the clock therefore you don't have to take Spots call and you don't have to return it. If it makes you feel better you can call them and say no...but they get the point when you don't answer or call them back. You don't have to explain to them why you cant or wont come in. If you don't want to that's your choice ....

Ok thanks everyone I wasn't really sure and wasn't sure if it was bothering them just to say no. My off days are set as available but at the same time if I'm not scheduled sometimes plans are made or things are happening

And that's cool; it's called 'having a life'.
Calling them back to decline is merely a courtesy & they'll appreciate it far more than no one calling back to say yay or nay.
It keeps you on their good side, which is important to be kind to the people that handle your paycheck.

I've stopped answering my phone on my days off if I see it's Spot calling. They can leave a message & I'll call back if it's important.

90% of the people at my store ignore the calls if they're off. Even when I call and try to be nice they don't answer their phone. I would love to call from my cell one day, have them answer, and be like "Bitch I got you! Would you like to take this shift?"

That's happened quite frequently at my store.
Someone won't answer so their buddy (who wasn't lucky enough to get the day off) calls them & snares them for a shift.

I had my first experience of the LOD calling me from their personal cells yesterday. We all knew the closing GSA would be calling out so while I was deliberating whether or not to bite the bullet after HR's voicemail, I get a mystery number and answer it and they're like "Bear." "Hey, what's u-- wait, [LOD]?" Probably not best practices but they're also the coolest LOD so once I knew they were there, it wasn't a hard decision to have their back.

My team lead bitches me out if I don't answer my phone on my day off but I normally don't wake up until after 12pm on days off. She acts like I'm causing her a burden HAHAHA when they can't get someone to cover a backroom day shift on my day off. If it's my day off, I don't have to do shit for Target.

When you are off the clock, Target has no control over you. They can't LEGALLY ask or make you do any work.

My response in my head is usually "why don't you make some of the lazy asses from the early morning backroom team work a backroom day shift". I will never understand that. Some people act like you're killing them or causing them bodily harm when they are asked to work a different shift than what they're used to working.

I stay until 830pm or 930pm every shift. It's not gonna kill someone to make a damn sacrifice and step out of their comfort zone for just one day and stay until 8 or 9pm.

Which is why I don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize 😉
I never got this train of though. What if it's a parent calling from different cell? At the worst, you just tel the person they got the wrong number.

Whose parent? Mine are both deceased, so if they're callin from someone else's cell, that would be creepy. 😱

If it's important, they will leave a message...
Or they leave a voice mail and I will call back. It's not that difficult. I don't answer numbers I don't know.
I more or less mean in an "emergency" where the caller cant used their normal phone. My Mom had that habbit of not answering numbers she didn't know so it really became a petpeave of mine. If I got a new phone or if mine died and I used a jobs or friends, they'd never pick up and I couldn't just say call back the friend or job.

My brother also picked up the habit so which is annoying because if someone is calling they wrong number he'll just let it ring and then they call back often because no one told them the previous person isn't there anymore.

I just seems easier to just answer the phone and either say no or wrong number and never hear from them again than it is to just ignore the call.

That's just me though

If it's my kids, they text me....even from other people's phones. Work & telemarketers are the only ones who really ever call me. I google the number & if it's a telemarketer, I block it.

Ideally it looks nicer and probably makes an impression that you had the decency to call back, meanwhile I'm just rolling over in my bed when I see the caller ID as Target. If anything it just gives more urgency to find someone who can work.
At this point target is forever on my do not disturb list and they go straight to voicemail hopefully they'll stop calling.

i would just hang up without answering and block your #.

Yeah I never answer numbers I don't know and never will. Like everyone said they'd leave a voice mail. I wonder if they can legally use their personal lines to call you though Just because you didn't answer (on your day off) from the work number

I don't see how that could be illegal in any way. Against policy perhaps, but definitely not illegal.

Yeah probably not the best word but using employee information for personal use even though it is for shift filling I would think is wrong some how lol
