I would love to get paid as much as I do now and go back to backroom. I guess the only gimmick, dream come true type thing would be without any leadership on my back. Purely backstock/batches.

No guests, no worries. Do my job daily and be done with it.

That's what I get to look forward to, I'll let you know how it turns out! My store is adding a key-carrying TL to take over flow for me so I will just have the backroom. Less than half the responsibilities (going from 35ish TMs to under 10), for the same pay! Now all I have to do is convince my ETL and STL that this new TL will run flow MUCH better if they are the instocks TL as well.

Nah you should keep instocks. Make sure they do a great job and it's an easy way for the leaders in the building to remember that YOUR team is making a difference. They won't notice backroom alone unless something is wrong.

This is true. Instocks is a small enough team to manage. Our backroom tl also has in stocks. He can claim he is contributing on the floor and in the back room

I'd work at corporate and write out planograms that actually made sense to the structure of the store.... heh. (It's like they have no clue at all how big these fixtures are or any sense of making a map to scale.) I do like what I do for the most part. My real dream would be not to have visits crashing my schedule for TWT. Lost two days to corporate visit preparations this week. :p

Mad jelly.

I remember when we used to have secret shoppers and I remember I asked one for a Red Card and she gave me a 50 dollar gift card. This was back in 05

I would love to be a secret shopper and give gift cards to TMS going above and beyond the call of duty.

That might motivate more TMs. I worked in a grocery store a long time ago and during the xmas rush and was stocking shelves of fast sellers. A little old lady asked me to get her something from the top shelf because they were pushed back a bit. Said no problem, did so, then made sure there were about a half a dozen zoned forward. Went back to stocking and about 5 minutes later the store owner, the lady and other managers came up to me to give me a "customer service" award for outstanding CS and a $5 gc for the store. LOL. Wasn't much, but it was something and it felt nice to be appreciated/recognized. I had no idea they even did things like that, at the time.

Sometimes all it takes is a very little recognition they are doing their job well. Hell, a $5 gift card? I'd take that in a heartbeat and be proud of it.

I would want to be a district trainer for bicycle assembly. Well, actually, I do that already, but only on an ad-hoc, or emergency, or fortuitous pocket-of-extra-payroll opportunity by an ETL I have previously worked with at my home store and who knows me, basis. I don't mind the travel as we have a bunch of stores within 5-10 miles of each other, and close to home. I can come to you, as I have a car and some of the potential trainees don't. Even out-of-town over 50 miles, just pay my mileage and schedule me within my availability. Let me train builders correctly, over a span of 2 to 3 shifts, and on each bicycle type. When I go to other stores to build, train, or both, they invariably ask if I want to come back in the future. I always say yes, but tell them to talk to my leadership at my home store. Payroll or resource politics (my store doesn't want to give me up) usually gets in the way of those plans, however.

Oh, and a "TRAINER" badge would be nice, but not necessary.

It's hard to pick. I LOVE Entertainment, and would love to spend a full 2 or 3 days a week there. I also love setting planograms. So working M-F doing those two things :)

I would love to have some sort of Visual Appeal Specialist position. Sort of like a VML, but different. Like I would work closely with the PMT and Global and the TLs of each department.

Essentially my role would be to make sure the store is in tip top shape. Like in cleanliness, organization, and aesthetics. I would make sure the food areas (Starbucks, food ave) were impeccably clean and that the front of the store is vacuumed and well stocked on cart wipes. I'd also see to it that the carts get washed and sanitized every six months or so. So I would take the maintaining roles of the cart attendants, and they could do more immediate tasks I couldn't take care of, such as spills. That way they can focus solely on carts and carry-outs. With that extra time, I would make sure they pulled trash out of the carts as they collect them. I never ever want a guest to grab a cart only to find a half eaten pizza and a rancid coffee smooshed in there.

I'd make sure end caps and perimeters were all well zoned and full and display products in a way to push sales. I would push samples of Target brand food items, or new products in general. Maybe do demos of Keurigs. Good opportunity to push the appliance as well as the K-Cups. Plus, I have a theory that the smell of freshly brewed coffee is comforting, and thus pushes people to spend more money. I'd really like to push samples in general because I think the interaction with guests makes a difference. I've seen it work wonders in the Beauty section with the Beauty Concierge. I want that dynamic throughout the store. Not too much, because at the same time it can be obnoxious, and ironically, I'm the kind of shopper that just wants to be left alone. But I still see some benefit to the demo concept.

I would also dust and clean things along the way. I would love to take the push broom through out the store every few hours. At least at the front end. I'd also make sure abandoned items are picked up as I walk the store. I hate that a pile of shirts will just sit in the toothpaste aisle, all day long.

I'd also want to bring a more "Local/Fresh" vibe to the market section. I'd want us to provide samples of whatever fruit looked good that day. Maybe have a chalkboard like Starbucks has showing our recommendation for the week. Maybe have a spot somewhere showing recipes for people to try, all with ingredients that could be bought in store. They could be recipes provided by myself, or anyone in the market team, or really any TM whom feels they have a recipe that would push sales.

I'd also want softlines to have full control over their mannequins. Style and accessorize!

To add onto my other post...I just want to be the person that ties in all the loose ends of the store. Takes care of all the things that just take a moment to do....but they just can't get done because everyone is busy.

I would fucking love to be an electronics TL. Especially in my store, where electronics is basically forgotten when they need the help.
I change my mind, I want to be AP but instead of looking for thieves I just want to find people that put shit IN THE WRONG PLACES and make them put them in the right one. All the while talking to them with an extremely disappointed and condescending tone. Not AP but AR, Asset Relocation.

I actually worked on that account for years. I know for sure we were doing it in 2003, since I actually did two on the day my mom passed away.

It was nice. We got $50 worth of stuff reimbursed. Plus, we usually got to give away a gift card. I tried to find somebody who looked like they were engaging the guests. I also tried to find somebody who looked like they could use the gift card (shoes were a good clue).

I want to be in charge of training and on boarding team members. As important as it is to get a team trained we put zero effort into it. Sure we pay lip service to it but thats it. You want to reduce workload and increase guest service? Then actually train your teams. If you take the time upfront to actually train team members how to answer the phone, what all the numbers on a label mean and how to use all the functions on a my device you would have a stronger team that would be more efficient and accurate. We would hire quality people, pay a decent wage with consistent hours instead of a warm body just looking for the next minimum wage job. Yep thats the job I want

An actual trainer position (perhaps with increased pay?!) rather than just throwing new TMs at whatever random TM happens to be there that day or a burnt-out trainer who accepted the title because they were told that it would probably get them more hours and they NEED more hours to pay the bills?!
Sounds heavenly!

Sounds like a good STL. My old one did all this. He was so versatile and jumped in wherever needed rather than getting tied to any one process.
