I've been an operator. Most of the questions are dumb. "Yeah I know it's 4pm but do you have anymore NES classics?"

"Do you have any eclipse glasses?"

I was asked this question in store in the middle of the eclipse....yeah, nope and too late on all levels. 🙄

It was deemed too generic and often elicited a generic response from guests. We are now supposed to be more personable when greeting guests.

I can certainly see the point of that.
I always asked, "Are you finding everything you need?"
That way there was more likelihood of getting a positive answer then a negative one when things were fine and when they needed help the question led to what it was right away.
When I worked at the grocery store the rule was if the person made eye contact or was within ten feet, you greeted them.
