Archived Hours cut! Everybody is really pissed off at my store!

There was a post in here not to long ago where @HRZone was bragging about being able to steal hours from other stores. I said at the time that seemed questionable and not something I would want to be involved in. HRZone might be helpful but they are also blindly protarget.

Please dont twist my words I said that stores sometimes charge hours to other stores to balance the books.

I know one month my store was going to miss payroll and we charged our hours to another store so we could make it. If the alternative was to cut the hours of our hourly team members I don't regret what we did.

It's actually a bit concerning how defensive you are of Target. You do realize that employers are not the good guys in a capitalist system, right? They're the enemies of both consumers and employees -- hence the reason regulations exist. They don't care about you, they care about profit -- profit they only make because of you, because you're earning more for them than they're paying you.

Really, it should be obvious when businesses only ever do the right thing when forced to by the market or government -- they rarely, if ever, do the right thing because they care.

Luckily, there is a buffer at Target -- the ETLs and TLs aren't always going to share the same viewpoint as corporate executives. They do care about their team members, more often than not.

You gathered all that from my response?

And if not for corporations a lot of us wouldn't have a job. I'm not saying Target is perfect but it's pretty simple if you don't like it then leave. This is how a capitalist economy works. You want to make more money you fight tooth and nail for it.

I hate when people say to get a new job like it is the easiest thing in the world. I don't know where you live but the job market is not that great where I am.

So you are ok with a company like target making a ton of money while a huge number of employees are on food stamps and welfare. IF you think like that you are part of the problem.

Target is not the reason these people are on welfare and food stamps. In fact they would probably need more assistance without Target. Do you see how this can go in circles?

I gathered it from the multiple replies you've made to posts by @NRVstrike.

I like working at Target. I quit a job that paid almost as well as being an STL, plus a ton more benefits.. and I'm glad I did that. I enjoy working at Target far more. I have no problem getting up in the morning and going to work, or staying late whenever asked. But I'll always be the first to admit that Target isn't doing me any favors. They're using me. Granted, I agreed to that when I applied to work there, but it's not something I could ever defend. They could do a better job, they could treat their employees better.

Really though, the same could be said of most corporations in the US. Capitalism has never been about making life better for the people at the bottom not at the top.

Weird, I suggest working on your reading comprehension, because your conclusion on my criticism is fucking stupidly inaccurate.

So what exactly are you people doing to fix the fact that everyones ancestors allowed capitalism to ruin the planet. . . .I mean realistically if you want to blindly attack people for being greatful to simply have an income then you MUST have a fix for the problems that are brought on by capitalism.

So please outline this grand plan of yours to bring down corporate greed and free us all from this indentured servitude because quite frankly I am sick of seeing people whine about things and refuse to actually take actions to fix it. What are you doing? You not shopping for holidays? Are you refusing to buy birthday gifts? Are you running around butt naked freezing with no roof in protest of prices and corporate greed? Setting up petitions and standing outside council offices? Seriously what ARE you doing to fix it besides being a whiney troll on a faceless board???

If you want hours at target you stroke ur ETL's ego, that's all u need to do.

In regards to the subtopic I kinda need my income so I'm okay with submitting to capitalism atm

So do you take that same attitude to every other problem in your life? Have a problem? Run away from it! How does that sound reasonable?

We are actually doing that, holding labor rights events, encouraging workers to organize, and we experience a lot of hostility for this perfectly legal activity, including having management violate our rights in the process. Part of the process of just getting workers to understand that the interests of workers are diametrically opposed to the interests of the corporations we have to work for, which is the opposite narrative Target propagates to us when they say things like "we are a team, we are a family". It's a battle of ideologies and that's the first step towards building workers power.

He doesn't sound like he has that much of a problem with it, so I don't know what he's running from.

Not everyone is an activist and that's completely fine. Being a dick to people because they aren't actively supporting your cause is just further cause for them to isolate themselves from you lol.

When a corporation is making money by paying it's workers poverty wages we are the ones subsidizing their venture with our labor, profit is inherently exploitative. You realize this sort of logic is what pro slavery ideologues used to justify that economic system? "If it wasn't for the slave masters these slaves wouldn't even have housing or food, they should be grateful!"

And its not like the other store isn't aware, lol. I seem to remember @HRZone explaining that moving around the hours benefits both stores--the taking store this year, and the giving store next year.

It's actually a dick move to tell people to run from a problem rather than understanding we all have a social obligation to fight and change that. It's not being an "activist" it's about having solidarity with your fellow workers because only as a collective do we improve the conditions for everyone rather than remain divided as Target and other corporations want. If you want to be obedient and docile that's fine, but don't discourage others who want to actually do something about it.

How is a slave that was captured and removed from his own country against his/her will and forced to work the same as a person who applies for a job of their own free will and then makes the conscious choice to accept that job???

So your solution is what exactly we all quit dont buy anything and live homelessly until they collapse under lack of funds. . .how exactly do we benefit from that? Besides clearly culling the over population of the planet as a whole? You may think yiu have good points but once again you have provided no realistic solution to the problem. So instead of claiming I am some crazed slaver or someone who thoroughly enjoys serving my capitaistic masters please enlghten us how exactly to change things?

You people who preafh and whine dont seem to want to leave your own comforts to fight a real fight nor do you bring up actual solutions. Its all I googled these statistics and everyone just sucks. . .

You're the one actively being condescending to anyone who doesn't 100% agree with what you're saying, don't know where I discouraged anyone from doing anything.

And the only obligation I have is to show up and do my work and i dont get fired, like you know, most jobs work.

I mean even the workers who have relative stability and benefits should be pissed about this because less workers in a store means a more labor intensive job for those who do get to work.

No actually if you read my prior post you'd see we are actively working to organize coworkers, let them know their rights and push back against management intimidation. We change the terms of the job through collective action, not by dropping out.

That's the difference between chattel slavery and wage slavery. We nominally have the "freedom" to agree to a contract and be employed, but we also have the "freedom" to starve by not working. It's not really a choice, the dynamic between corporations and workers is inherently a coercive economic relationship. You have to work to live, and the threat of being homeless is a strong compulsion to keep workers in line.

People know their rights quite frankly all you are doing is inciting discention without any actual movement. You still have not yet talked about actual plans to change the grand sceme of things all I see in your responses is the pitch fork and torch approach. Which historically yields little long term results.

So how about actual political mogement what are your plans for that? Changing things on a small scale say one store at a time is worthless if you have no actual plans to change the collective leaders positions. Your bid to uprise as it were will leave things worse than they are now. Its not a washed mentality its a proven fact.

Admin maybe we should close this thread I think the op got more than enough info on why hours what they are.

Nope. NRV is offended that you even suggest they do more work. They're happy with petty revenge and a lawsuit to be their meal ticket probably.

And during the strikes of yore, scabs were usually brought in to do the jobs of striking workers.
Nowadays they use H1B visas.
I've seen nurses, teachers, engineers & other skilled professionals replaced by foreign workers solely to cut wages.
Our current white house occupant vowed to put a stop to such practices but immediately granted visas for foreign workers to staff his resorts.
Push back against corporate America hard enough & they'll do the same for all the entry-level jobs 'that could be done by trained monkeys'.
They've already sent most of the manufacturing jobs overseas; now they want to bring the cheap labor over.
Nothin' personal; just the cost of doin' business.
