I started working for target back in April as a cashier and have been wanting to be moved/cross trained in hard lines, specifically beauty which they told me they'd work on getting me over there. My schedule for next week has me closing soft lines for two days... and my store usually one person closing in that area yet I've never been over there other than to zone a little. I have no idea what to do and what needs to be done. Could any of you leave some comments as to what typically goes down during a shift over there? Will I be over all clothing or just a section? I'd really rather not be over there until 11:30 either. Do you guys think there will be someone there to train me? They wouldn't blindly just throw me over in another area would they? Two days is okay if they're gonna train me or tell me what I need to do but I don't want to be over there at all really, do you think they'd change it if I told them? I've already tried to find someone who wants a shift but no luck so far. On a better note, my two week out schedule has one beauty shift which I'm excited for.

This is target haha don't put anything past them .

Remember you are responsible for what you know. Ask if you can extend one of your other shifts so you can see what a normal close over there looks like.

Worst case when you start your shift and someone else is there ask them what your stores closing routines are

Get to know other Softlines workers. When I took my first closing hardlines, I was already buddies with some guys there, but they gave me some pretty good info. I would do a lot of talking to see how closings go because ASANTS.

For the most part, it follows the same principles across all targets, but there's variations, different techniques, and situations to each store's closing shifts. I'd talk to the SL Teamlead(if that's a thing at your store) or ETL and other softlines workers. LOD would probably be able to help as well that night.

I'd take the extra experience any day, I strive to do whatever they ask of me in my store because in the end that means more opportunity, more money, and better future with your store. If I wanna try to become a Team Leader, I'm gonna need that. But, if you're just a girl in highschool who got a job to have a job, then maybe they're probably dis-interested in it because they're not gonna be here in a year anyways.
