What if you went over 7.75 scheduled hours for the day but well witnin 40 hours for the week, are you still doing overtime? Would that get you into trouble?

Hello Shirohime! 🙂

It depends on what state you are in. Not all states have daily overtime laws. States like Alaska, California, Nevada, and Colorado do though. If you work past 8 hours a day in these states (Colorado is 12 hours a day), then you hit OT for your shift.

I am in California and we hit OT in 3 ways:
- Working past 40 hours a week.
- Working past 8 hours a day.
- Working 7 consecutive days on the same work week.

Yeah I'm bad.... I routinely stayed 15 or so minutes late as a TM, and half an hour as a TL. I'll cut my time, but rarely cut it all. We have such a large attendance problem that I'm pretty sure they just ignore it, but if that ever changes I know I could get written up.
