MEGATHREAD Target myDevices

Any other stores suffer from the myWork app crashing to the "Dawgonnnn-it" screen while searching for an item? Did it all day today. And I wasn't even in the middle of searching. After pulling up whatever item I was looking for, it would crash to that screen without me touching anything. Know anything @UIguy ?

Over the weekend, the search function was going REALLY slow, and if I arrowed back, it said "search failed." If I needed to search for anything, I had to use the Target app instead and sift through hundreds of search results.

We were having the same problem this weekend & last night.

Exactly! Me, too.

New to the forum here. I hate these devices. It crashes and logs me out every few minutes and it's impossible to pull from the backroom. And the type of person who likes taking matters in their own hands, and I hate having to track down a backroom team member to help me.

In a nutshell why I don't really use them.

I heard there's going to be an update in early 2015 that will add the backroom capability so hopefully it's not delayed. I like the speed and user interface of the my devices, but there are a few significant drawbacks that will keep me using PDAs for the near future.

Yeah its not just the lack of backroom its that they are still very bug ridden and nothing is easy to use, it is almost like with our In-Stock function they never actually talked to an In-stock team about how the work - works.

I haven't heard of anything... are you still seeing that screen? That sounds like something the technical swat team would've/should've fixed quickly (The CSC would've notified them).

Sorry to hear that you really don't like the In-Stocks function. I'm hoping that it's due to system stability issues and not the app design/flow. If it's the app design, you can direct those comments to me as I personally designed it myself (after collecting input from about two dozen ETLs and Team Leads). If you make a list of what is still frustrating you (about the app design/flow), I'll work to get that fixed as soon as possible.

@UIguy any updates on if we'll ever be able to pull the batches created by MyDevice with MyDevice?
Should see it roll out around Jan. No idea if it will actually work properly.

OH THIS IS AWESOME.

they won't leave me alone about EXFing cosmetics.

To clarify, the January update will include SUBT, STO, and QMOS. Things like SDA and PCV are coming later. The ability to PULL batches is still not slated to be developed anytime soon. No word on if/when that is coming; but I'll keep you posted as I learn more.

Five things about the MyDevices cause problems for me:

1. Having to type in the section and Sta/Rev when tying Revisions. On the PDA once you typed in the Aisle number and the POG number it automatically knew the section and set direction. Having to type these in opens up two new ways to make a mistake.

2. When tying a revision a batch is automatically dropped and named by aisle number. Sometimes I need to tie a POG without dropping it right away. Also, not being able to name them makes it impossible to tell the backroom to "pull Joe's batches before Jane's because he'll be done setting first." Or if Sally is setting 8 small revisions all over the store there's no easy way to put all 8 of her batches together on one vehicle.

3. There's no way to tell if any of your batches have actually dropped. No sense going to the backroom to look for your pull if nothing dropped.

4. I really need to be able to Pull my own batches when necessary.

5. On a PDA in NOP a NO LOCS shows the date and POG number of the next time it will have a location. This is very useful to me on a daily basis, but the info is missing on the MyDevice.

The MyDevices are much more reliable than they had been. Thank you Ulguy for that. For Pushing they are actually better than the PDA because all Locs show up on one screen. I wish the POG aisle addresses were uniform though - the (1) is not shown for POGS that start in section 1, so I have to keep reminding myself, but I'll probably get used to it.

It only did it once today.

You have to be able to jump around in the list, and continue from the point you jump to. As is now you are taken back to the first item in your list and I did not find a way around this. Makes it painful when you have to work around a section of the store and eats time to re-scroll through the task list. Every item completed it forces you back to the first item in the list, not the next item from where you need to be. It is so painful that we refuse to use the stupid things cause it eats so much time. And I am in an overnight store, stores that are not overnight really need this function since they are following or avoiding the truck unload/push teams.

Last item of your task list completed as in you are completely done, clear it don't just leave the last task on the screen as if it is not complete.

I have been seeing more and more of that lately.

I'm starting to grow fond of the little thing. Here's why:
  • PDA net at my store is spotty in my department and the MyDevice connects better and loads much faster than even the 9200 or LPDAs do. Last year at this time of year entertainment reshop was a nightmare. Today I was able to sort out 3 full carts of dvd/blu ray reshop and put it out to the floor in 90 minutes. Last year that would have been an all day project.
  • All locations of an item are visible at the same time for an item, making it easy to fill multiple locations.
  • Fill from stockroom makes it easy to make a quick EXF for outs or low quantities. I was actually a big fan of the outs app on the PDA and on this app it's a little more robust since I can key in the exact quantity I need if the listed capacity is off.
  • Being able to see when an item was last sold. Makes me feel accomplished when something I flexed goes away, especially D-Code.
  • Store Ties are much quicker and deleting store ties is also pretty quick. I still wish I could make up schematics for it though.
  • I like that my revisions are dropped when I tie them in and the naming scheme is practically identical to how I was doing it before.
  • No one seems to like them so I never have any issue getting a hold of one at any point of the day.
Although there are some things that need work:
  • To my knowledge there isn't a way to connect it with a portable printer. Having to use the main printer means I have to have all the labels printed before flexing.
  • I'm not sure if there is a way to print unknown missing labels from pogs like the label printing app does.
  • NOP items with future pogs aren't distinguished from no pog NOP.
  • PDA with RF APPS signing + UPCS is so much better for sign audits especially for having to do multiples of signs.
  • Revisions don't automatically go to the correct section. This was a check for me on the PDA if I screwed up an aisle or pog number along the line.
  • No ability to pull is an pretty annoying issue. SUBT being added is fine, but I want to be able to pull my EXFs as well.
  • Some items are showing TPC in the app that aren't TPC or on sale. Printing a sign asks for 3x5 paper.
  • The iOS keyboard isn't great for typing, especially when I'm typing a DPCI in item search.
And there are some things that I would like to see:
  • Online Planogram and TWT visible on the Mydevice.
  • Some way to get more battery power into it. Batteries can't be swapped out and it doesn't last a full shift. Even if the housing had a mophie-like battery in it that would be helpful.
  • There really should be a stand alone signing app so when an item is scanned and it's on sale it just adds a sign to a batch. Clicking on print signs and selecting a size each time is a waste compared to using UPCS in conjunction with the signing app and using & to swap between them. There should be an option to pick the size just like in the RF apps and change it when needed instead of selecting it every time. Same thing for labels.
  • Some way to view upcoming sales like the PDA does. I want to flex out items that are on sale or will soon be on sale.
  • I want to be able to scan an item and see if it's street dated and what the street date is. If the device can pull up information on when an item was last sold, surely it show a street date. Price scanners on the floor seem to be the best way to find out if something is street dated without getting a walkie call from a GSA.
I still carry both a PDA and a MyDevice but I'm definitely using the MyDevice more. Hopefully they'll go the way of making the device more useful instead of worse like the PDA *cough* SUBT *cough* SCNT *cough*

You can connect to a portable printer simply by scanning the printer barcode or searching the barcode in the search bar (barcodes usually follow the format of t####prt@@@@ where #### is your store number and @@@@ is the printer ID number). you do that before you print the label.

I believe that SUBT is coming in the January update :)

I think that if you scan the POG, you can print the labels for it.

I disagree with the fact that they are quicker. Especially if you are tying in multiple items to one location. I do however think that it is faster if you are tying only one item in. I also agree with the fact that you should be able to make up schematics for it.

To connect a portable printer, one simply scans the portable printer with the myDevice or types the printer name in, while in myWork on the "scan" screen. A blue bar then appears at the top, saying "Printer Connected: [PRINTER NAME]" and to disconnect the printer, you tap the blue bar. It is always confusing because I have a 3 digit store number, with one leading zero (T-0XXX) and the "official" stuff has the full 0XXX but the informal things, communications, and stuff just has XXX. I sometimes forget which one is being used at that time.

My store needs to upgrade the WiFi and then it will be good to go, the entire back wall is basically unusable because the coverage is terrible.

Ah, so scan the printer first. I didn't think about that.

I've tried scanning pogs but it only gives me an option to print all signs but nothing for labels.

It probably has more to do with the shoddy PDA net in my area because with the PDA it felt like it took a minute for it to ask for the quantity of the item after scanning it into a location. With the mydevice I end up typing in the location multiple times but it was nearly instantaneous for it to ask me for the quantity and move back to the home screen. Deleting a tie is much quicker though, scan the item, click on its location, click delete.

That's been happening ever since we got ours like 2months ago or so. Like 1/4 of the times you try to search for something it says Oops Dawgonnnn-it and shows spot. and then you have to re-search for same thing and it pops up. Annoying bug.

You also can't scan right away when you turn screen on, annoys the crap out of anyone who wants to be quick about something.

I'm pulling some plano hours in a few weeks and there are TMs on that team who refuse to give up using LPDAs. When I see them I mention that they are going away soon I get "I'll just use a PDA". Our store has 16 PDAs and I think we are losing some during bounceback. I'll have to show them the error of their ways since there are likely some MyDevices that have never been used in the closet.

The oops part is because it is reconnecting to the network. Before you would have to log back in every time.

Yeah, until a week ago, I would be swearing under my breath every time that "Please wait" or "this is taking forever" came up because I would have to dig out my eHR password again.

And the on screen keyboard sucks.. Sad they didn't think to make the keys bigger and use the wasted space on the screen.. Oh Apple..
