PDA Command's.

ADCI = Acknowledge DCI. Not used terribly often in my store, since DCIs can also be acknowledged on the Chargebacks PC.
ADSD = We use that to check in McLane's deliveries.
APG = Application for Producion Guidance. This is for creating a production guide report in non planogrammed area. This shows you whats been selling, what hasnt been, and what reccomended tasks there are for replenishment. Generally only used in the Deli and Bakery in SuperTarget stores. At the end of the night, QMOS will be done to the bakery/deli, and then everything that is available is filled. Type in APG, select new production date (and input the following day's date) and scan labels with "APG" on them. After scanning a label, type in how many of that item are in that facing.
BCODE = Print barcodes (UPC) from O'Neill Printer.
BRLM = Backroom Location Menu
CAF = CAF allows you to Create your own Auto Fill. This allows you to get product to the floor when a certain area is light.
CREDIT- Creates a Vendor credit for return merchandise.
DISC = Discontinued items pull, pulls disc items for either sales floor capacity or all stockroom locations. This function has been replaced in the newest (Spring 2007) Software Release by PTM.
EXF = Exceptional fills, this is normally used as a clutch when your normal pulls aren't doing the trick.
LBLP = Print or request labels
LOC = Location: Goes into the sales floor location menu and backroom location menu. It will tell you where a particular item is located in both locations.
LOCU = Location update. This requires you to scan a location, then scan every item in that location. Used to move stuff around in the stockroom or repair poor location accuracy. DO NOT USE THIS APPLICATION UNLESS YOU HAVE BEEN TRAINED WITH IT!!!! LOCU gives the user complete control over the stockroom location system, making it incredibly easy to both fix and create errors.
LPA = License Plate Audit. Used by Service Desk and Reverse Logistics Specialist to review what item each defective license plate is associated with to ensure accuracy. Can also be used to void out license plates, and is the only way (that I know of) to do so.
MIR = Merchant Initiated Returns
MPG = This is actually a fill application. It's used when a display is light due to sellthorough on discontinued items. A recent software update (Summer 2006, I think) added a task list that takes you through all MPGs that may need review. Completing this task list reguraly can help reduce backroom and price change workload, and improve sales. This function has been replaced in the newest (Spring 2007) Software Release by PTM.
MRCAR = MIRs that are CRC
MRCO = MIRs that are not CRC
MRIN = Inquire on MIRs. This will tell you if an item is on an MIR or not. If it is, it'll say what the return number is, or tell you that the store has already returned the maximum quantity.
MRSF = Merchant initiated returns for sales floor. Used when pulling items from the sales floor.
MRST = Start MIRs. This app drops MIR batches into PULL and MRSF. QA returns should be started on Monday, marketing returns on Tuesday.
MSPK = Report DC mispicks. If you have a carton containing an item that isn't what the pick label says it is, that's a mispick, and you have to report it to ensure that your onhands are correct. MSPK doesn't seem to have changed very much since the days of the LRT - for instance, you can't toggle to it.
NEW = Used for new planogram pulls.
NOF = Ties a UPC code to a DPCI.
NOP = Not on Plannorgram, its commonly used to correctly locate items on the sales floor. It tells you the exact isle location, if its an active pog, discontinued or not on plannogram at all, the POG number, normal price. Also tells you where signs should be set.
OUTS = You scan these in every department ever day except for the ones that research that day. When you scan it, it resets the accumalator.
POG = Shoots a batch for a pog thats been setup.
PRINT = Used for linking the pdt to the o'neil printers.
PTM- Has replaced both MPG and DISC in the Spring 2007 Software Release. For use in Pre-Transition Merchandising. Gives u 3 choices:
Tasks- Takes you to a specific POG and tells you it needs work.
Header Labels- Leads you through the store changing out yellow POG header labels for red ones.
Fill- Lets you create a custom batch containing either discontinued merchandise only or all items. It also gives you the option of pulling only what the original shelf capacity of the items was or pulling everything in the backroom that goes on that POG. You decide which options to use based on how empty, or broken, the aisle appears to you.

PULL = Shortcut to the pull menu.
PUSH = Determines how to handle DC freight - push or backstock?
ORDER = Used to manualy supplement food orders from the wholesaler (McLanes, SuperValue or C&S)
PCHG = Sets up price changes AKA Price Cuts.
QMOS = Quantity Markout of Stock. This has pretty much the same effect as SDEF, except you can mark out several eaches at a time, and give a reason for doing so (outdated, damaged, demo). Preferable to SDEF for those items that it's valid for, ie food.
RSCH = The research app, tells the system how much of an item is left on the shelf.
RAIN = Used to tie an item to a raincheck pad.
RECV = Used to check in all shipments that cannot be checked in with ADSD or ADCI. This includes most vendors and all UPS/Fedex shipments.
REV = Used for Revision Fills.
REWRP = Used to print out as-is repackage labels.
RORDER = Replacement Order
SCNT = return scan done every 6 weeks in entertainment.
SDEF = Used to defect items out.
SEAS = Used for seasonal merchandise fills.
SFLM = Sales Floor Location Management.Used to tie new pogs to your endcaps, remember odd isle numbers front even numbered isles back!
SHIP = Pallet tracking. Esoteric and only useful to receiving/reverse logistics team members. Enters an outgoing pallet into the system for tracking and transfer out of your store's inventory.
SIGN = Scan an item to create a sign for it.
SIGNT = Used for ad sign setup/takedown.
STO = Ties an item to a backroom location.
SUBT = Used to subtract items from their locations in the backroom.
SWADD = Sweep Add. Every 2 weeks, the Logistics team sends a sweep back of products that we have too much of. This is something that is automatically generated. Monday morning around 7am, it opens up to were you can go into SWADD and start scanning merchandise to see if you can add merchandise to the batch. This allows you to get rid of excess product instead of sitting on it.
SWST = Start Sweeps. Should only used AFTER all SWADD has been completed. This will finalize all DPCIs in the sweep and drop the batches into PULL.
TEST = Not an application used for normal store operations, TEST just echos back whatever you scan or any text you enter. Since this list is an attempt to catalog every function, it's being included anyway.

This is the most information I can give, as I'm not backroom. Ask another back room TM and they can help you out!

Usually it's best if you ask the GSTL or GSA to do the asking you'll have a better chance of getting some help.
But it's pretty basic, "Guest assistance for carry out. Cart Attendant is already on it. We need one more."

At my store, the GSTL will usually send out a cashier to help. But if the GSTL can't spare a cashier for a few minutes, then just walkie "Team, is anyone available to assist me with a team lift carry-out, please?" or something to that effect.

APS - Assets Protection Specialist (undercover AP team member)
Brand Attendant - A team member in a high risk store who takes care of tasks such as keeping the restrooms, cleaning up spills, etc.
Cart Attendant - Team member whose responsibility is to retrieve carts from the parking lot, check the restrooms, pick up hangers and defective merchandise, among other things
DTL - District team lead
ETL - Executive Team Lead. A "manager"
ETL-AP - Executive Team Lead - Assets Protection
ETL-GE - Executive Team Lead - Guest Experience (formerly ETL-Guest Service/ETL-GS), the ETL in charge of the front end. In low volume stores, this position is often combined with ETL-SL.
ETL-HL - Executive Team Lead - Hardlines

GSA - Guest Service Attendant, basically team member who carries many of the same roles as a GSTL. First started in 2008
GSTL (cashier supervisor, or simply just "Cash-sup") - Guest Service Team Lead, team lead in charge of guest services and the front lanes
LOD - An ETL who serves as the manager on duty. A LOD is usually an ETL, but an ETL is not always an LOD
Operator - Team member who both answers the phones and assists guests at the fitting rooms
SFT - The team member who is in charge of maintaining the store and equipment
Specialist(Level 2) - Team member who carries more responsibilities in a particular department. This position was eliminated as part of AE09.
SrTL - Senior Team Lead
STL - Store Team Lead - The ETL in charge of the store. The "general manager"
Team Leader(Level 3) - Team member who is in charge of a particular department. A "supervisor"
TLOD - Team Leader on Duty
TPS - Target Protection Specialist (uniformed AP team member)
SrTPS - Senior Target Protection Specialist

Areas of the Store

239 - The extension for the Cash Office. May be announced when an LOD is needed in the cash office. In some stores this is known as a Code Black
Cash Office - The part of the store where money is handled when not in the register.
Chargebacks (Reverse Logistics) - The section in receiving that handles defective merchandise
Fire Aisle - A hallway between the stockroom and receiving in many stores. It should be completely clear, but in my store it's more like the Fire Hazard Aisle
Food Avenue(Food Service, Target Cafe) - The "snack bar". In older stores, Food Ave may also have a grill and deep fryer. Some Food Avenue locations may also include a Pizza Hut Express and/or a Taco Bell Express. Some stores also have a Starbucks
Hardlines - The 55 percent of the store where general merchandise besides clothing is sold
HBA - Health and Beauty
Logistics - Backroom
Mini Seasonal - A small section of the store that sells seasonal merchandise, especially smaller stuff (eg. for Halloween, candy will be in Mini Seasonal while costumes and decorations are in rear seasonal). It is usually either located at the front near the registers or in the back next to Rear Seasonal
MMB - Music, Movies, and Books
One Spot (See. Spot. Save., Dollar Spot) - A section near the front of the store that sells assorted trinkets for either a dollar or $2.50
Racetrack - The main aisle around the perimeter of the store.
Ready-To-Wear - The main section of women's clothing
Receiving - The part of the stores where the trucks are unloaded
Seasonal - An area (usually at the back of the store) that sells seasonal merchandise, such as Christmas, Halloween, patio, Global Bazaar, etc.
Softlines - The carpeted 45 percent of the store that contains clothing. Some items are softlines in some stores but not in others. Usually infant/baby supplies are in a section of softlines called "infant hardlines". This section has tile floor and normal gondolas.
TMSC, TSC- Team member Service Center, the place where time-off requests, availability change requests, punch correction forms, paychecks, etc. are handled.

Tools and Equipment

Baler - The large machine in receiving that eats used corrugated boxes. You need to be at least 18 and certified to operate it.
Compacter - The large machine and dumpster in receiving that compacts garbage that cannot be recycled. You need to be at least 18 and certified to operate it.
Crown (Stacker)- Forklift like vehicle that you walk behind to stack/double stack pallets. You must be 18 and certified to use. This is a misnomer, the machine itself is a stacker. Crown is the company that makes it.
DTK - Diagnostic Toolkit. Shows various store stats and metrics, including cashier speed, guest service scores, backroom location accuracy, etc.
TIPP - The computer interface used to order supplies, such as fixtures, bags, etc.
Eureka! - A website that provides answers to most common questions
GRPDA - Gift Registry PDA - PDAs located at Guest Services used by guests to manage gift registries. Virtually identical to the LPDA except for the red casing and different software. Some stores may use the older Symbol Phaser scanners
LPDA - Leader PDA, a smaller version of the standard PDA. Usually used by Team Leads and Executives.
LRT - Laser Radio Terminal, phased out. Replaced by PDT's in many stores
MAX FSTL (Forecasting, Scheduling, Time, and Labor)- The software that manages scheduling, time-clock punches, among other clerical things.
MyDevice - The iPod scanners used as a replacement for the LPDA, used by all Team Members.
MSA - Mobile Salesfloor Assistant - A large tablet-computer sort of device which was piloted for salesfloor teams to view planograms while on the salesfloor. Phased out.
NOP - Not on Planogram, meaning the item has not been set onto the salesfloor. Also slang for "Not Our Problem" by the flow teams.
PDA - Personal digital assistant - a more high tech version of the PDT with a touch screen and a graphical UI. Replaces the LRT/PDT.
PDT - Portable Data Terminal - Basically the same as an LRT, but with a bigger screen and slightly different key layout. Phased out in favor of PDA's.
POS - Point of sale. Basically the software that runs on the registers, can also refer to the register itself.
QuicKart(cart pusher, cart mover) - The machine that cart attendants use in higher volume stores to assist with bringing in carts. Must be 16 and certified to operate.
RF devices - There are several types of these, including LRT's, PDT's, MSA's, PDA's, GRPDA's, and LPDA's
Walkie - Walkie talkies that team members (and the Indyme announcement system) use to communicate
WAVE - Work Assist Vehicle. Vehicle used primarily in the back room for retrieving merchandise from high shelves. A bit like a ladder, but a lot more fun! You need to be certified to drive it though
Workbench - A website that allows store team members to find out store stats, view announcements from HQ, and find common questions. Includes links to DTK, Online Planogram, Eureka!, and mySupport.
Z-Rack - A movable clothing rack used for stocking hanging softlines merchandise. Named for the Z-shaped frame on the base

Wow. That's allowed in some stores? We have an 11 hour minimum gap between shifts. No TM or TL can be off less than 11 hours between shifts or they get in trouble. Not sure if the same applies to ETLs but my guess is no.

SFT is no longer used. As of 1/5/15 the SFT position is now called PMT: Property Management Technician. The entire Facility branch of Target has re-branded and is now called Property Management.

In the old days, clothing wasn't finished and required tailoring. Men could usually get their clothes tailored for free, but women had to pay extra for tailoring. So women's clothing designers started to come out with lines of finished clothing in standard sizes - called ready-to-wear because it was, as the name implies, ready to wear without tailoring.

I have a question, and it's never really been answered by anyone at my store - they just kind of brush it off and look at me like I'm dumb, but, what does it mean when a planogram is 'tied'? What is that, what does it do, and why is it that some aren't tied?
