My store has pulled out the "if you don't ask every guest, it can be considered discrimination" line. While it's technically correct, I don't think that's the right way to go about it..
Honestly, I don't even ask about red cards when I'm on a register (Express lane whenever I can). If the customer wants one bad enough he'll ask me. I don't worry about it.
