And many of us would not be making more on unemployment. Maybe those who would be making more should just quit and let everyone else continue to work.

If you are able to get through to unemployment. I know lots of people that applied mid March and haven’t seen a dime.

If you need and have health insurance through Target (and can maintain decent hours through scheduling and using vacation time), continuing to work here is the only way to go. That extra $600 a week will be eaten up very quickly by your COBRA payments. Remember, the grass always looks greener.

Some of the states like fucking Georgia, are opening so early because that way they don't have to pay out unemployment.
Even if businesses don't reopen or people don't feel comfortable going back to work because Georgia hasn't even plateaued for the first time yet, they can claim there is no reason to not be out there getting a job.
Fuck those asshole red states.

Maybe. It's online in my state, and the system has been so overwhelmed that people are having a lot of trouble registering their claim.
As to the OP's original question, no, I won't be participating because my store has been doing a pretty good job. Glad masks are required now and wish they'd been required sooner. And the plexiglas shields aren't perfect, but they're better than nothing and guests are cooperative about standing where the shields are most helpful. Plus they're mostly wearing masks now too.

I Don’t see how purposefully make things more difficult for the heroes that show up everyday Is going to help anything but get YOU hated by the team. Please. Find another way to get your point across. How does hurting the victim more get at the perpetrator ?

For those of you who haven't taken history or political science classes in a few years, here's why this so-called "Mass Sickout" is on Friday, May 1st.
Since 1886, May 1st is observed by socialists and communists as International Workers Day, Communist May Day, Labor (Labour) Day, or May Day. Labor union advocates originally created these days .
In nations like the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, People's Republic of China and Democratic People's Republic of Korea (which in theory govern as advocates and protectors of workers rights - i.e. "dictatorship of the proletariat"), May Day observances include marches and parades claiming to represent accomplishments of workers and their victory over capitalism, plus celebrating their nation's military might in standing up against so-called capitalist, fascist and imperialist aggressors.
In many other nations including most of the EU, at the behest of labor activists, May 1st is widely observed as the Labor Day legal holiday. It's a civil holiday, NOT specifically for political or ideological purposes. In Canada and the United States, Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday in September. Ironically, unlike the EU countries where Labor Day is widely observed, in the USA most retail stores including Target are open for business on Labor Day. Target store TMs earn time-and-a-half for hours worked on the Labor Day holiday.
Hopefully this explains the timing of the so-called "Mass Sickout". P.S. Just to be clear, very few labor union members or activists are "socialists" or "communists". This is not meant to be "red baiting" against union advocates. Socialist and communist groups tend to interject themselves into labor movement issues as part of their ideological agenda.

Go for it. Legally, they can't retaliate against you.
Symbolically, doing it on May 1st makes sense. Tactically, it doesn't make sense because of the way the hours have been cut for May. They will be able to cut your hours to three or four a week and have the perfect cover of everyone's is being cut. If a seasonal does it, expect him or her to be one of the first to be termed because of the needs of the business.

Maybe they’d listen to them Duke boys down in Hazard County. I mean if they listen to a guy who tanked a casino among many other failed businesses then went on to host a reality TV show. They just might listen to Bo and Luke telling them to stay the frack home.

As far as what Target hasn't done, there should have been a universal end to selling non essential items in store. The stores could have been made slightly uncomfortable (heat, AC, lights, music quality) to encourage people to leave quickly. GS could get better protection. Store people limits could be much smaller. Secret shoppers could have been used frequently to test individual store compliance ("If I bitch loud enough about wanting 2 toilet papers, will they cave?") and the hammer come down swiftly and hard for coronavirus ASANTS. And returns, I know Petsmart isn't accepting returns yet.

In case anyone is curious why the labor movement and the polictical left chose May 1st as their day, well it goes way back to a convention of trade unions that would later become the AFL in 1884. They resolved that as of May 1, 1886, a standard work day should be considered 8 hours. After much back and forth for a year, virtually all labor organizations, including the larget socialist and anarchist groups agreed to fight for this.
Thus on May 1, 1886 an estimated 300,000 American workers went on strike. Chicago saw the biggest strikes and they continued until May 3rd when tensions rose between the police and the strikers that resulted in the police firing on the crowd. The next day a public meeting was held in Chicago led by the anarchists. No one is certain who, but someone threw a bomb. The police again fired on the crowd killing several and wounding dozens. This is known as the Haymarket Massacre.
In rememberance of that, in 1889 the Second International declared May 1st to be International Worker's Day. The Second International was an umbrella organization that many of the old socialist and labor organizations outside of the United States participated in. It included socialists, communists, and labor organizations throughout Europe. This is why in Europe where many of those groups would later hold political power, such as with the UK's Labour Party, May 1st is celebrated as Labor Day and why it is also such a key date in Communist nations, Vladimir Lenin was a member of the Second International.
tl;dr Everyone celebrates May 1st because way back when labor/socialists/communists/anarchists all worked together and declared it to be their day.
Even if you are unionized, participating in a "sick-out" is an easy way to get fired. When a large percentage of your work force all call in on ONE day, it's pretty obvious. My advice: don't do it. Remember how hard it is to get through on unemployment lines. Then again, this could be firing you for cause and unemployment would not be available.

Except the system is crashing in many different areas due to the numbers. This state, some local offices have been closed due to COVID-19 and whatever work they are doing at home, website says clearly they aren't answering calls. Trying to call the main office is hopeless, unless you call in the middle of the night to test the line it rings non-stop busy. Bottom line, phone service doesn't exist. You can file online, but they have so many filers, you are very restricted as to what day of the week you can file, it's not when you have a moment. The system for filing weekly work efforts has crashed at least twice for weeks at a time. Sending emails is almost as hopeless, you get an automated reply that your email was received, logged and placed in a queue for resolution, and then nothing, ever. And if there are any glitches along the way, the system works under the old rules. I'm in the nightmare of according to the old rules I must speak with someone by phone to clear up a problem, I cannot do any filing online, but the damned phones ring busy non-stop 12 hours a day and I've tried calling over 100 times, maybe closer to 150.
The system is crashing and burning due to the volume of claims at once.

my states computer systems have pretty much melted. great big ole pile of slag in the capital.
on a side note most of the problem with the computer systems in some states is the program languages that run said computers are pretty much dead languages and they are trying to find retirees who ran the things back in the day.

Alaska brought back a bunch of their retired Unemployment Specialists to work as trainers and to handle the high call volume.
They know all the ins and outs of the systems while be ninjas at cutting red tape.
Nice for them because they are getting retirement plus a bunch to work at home (they have laptops with remote desktops).

And even once the claim is submitted, it still needs humans to review it and process it and all of that and no states have staff to handle this volume of claims and hiring for civil service positions takes an eternity and gov'ts can't just pull in some contractors on a whim (usually) so the whole system just slows to a crawl. I mean, Georgia is opening so they don't have to pay unemployment because their system was largely broken before the pandemic.
ETA: Cross-posted with commie. If your state has the ability to tap former employees to help, that's great, but not all states can do that, necessarily.

Good points. It just dawned on me that if stores in affluent communities (New York, Seattle, San Francisco) played nothing but early-20th-century Country-and-Western music (what once was called "hillbilly" music), that would reduce the loitering. I don't think too many of those guests are fans of Roy Acuff, Minnie Pearl, the Carter Family and Hank Williams. Most Target Karens aren't devotees of Hee Haw reruns either, so they would get their items, pay and go. Likewise, in stores in the deep South, play nothing but Verdi and Puccini operas....
