In the news

It’s crazy to think, but Walmart out schedules us 10 to 1 🤷‍♂️ we’re starting to look like K-Mart in some stores…
I've been saying this about my local Walmart. They took out all the carpet. I think what they're trying to do is look like Sams Club but it just DOES NOT WORK. It doesn't feel like the Walmart I knew growing up. Or the Kmart I knew for that matter, back when they were still doing pretty good. They're not quite at 10 buggies of reshop outside the fitting room bad, but they're getting there.

We had a fight quite similar to this one at my store early this year yet it never made the news...

Target loses cachet with shoppers as inflation and competition bite Financial Times

Backlash to Pride wares was only the start of recent woes as reliance on discretionary goods took a price-conscious hit

The big-box US retailer Target is struggling to return to growth a year after backlash against LGBT+ themed merchandise triggered sharp declines in sales, while arch-rival Walmart is luring more of the affluent customers that form the backbone of its business. Target won legions of fans starting in the 1990s with stylish in-house brands and advertising that lent its stores an aura of affordable chic. Annual revenue exploded to more than $100bn after the onset of Covid-19 as cash-rich consumers found they could buy most anything they wanted in a single place, minimising the risk of contagion.

As is always said, all Target had to do was continue to not be Walmart. Now everything they sell is hardly better quality, and at 33% higher cost.

I used to see people genuinely wear Target clothes all the time. Now I cant think of a single time I have seen someone wearing a shirt bought from Target within the past 2 years. Feels like half the womens section is a clearence rack with the most garish and ugly clothes that look like they came from my grandmas closet.

I just dont get excited to shop at Target anymore. Nothing actually feels new or interesting. Target feels like how I remember Kmart feeling like in the mid 2000s. Right down to the food courts closing.
