Lack of cashiers

Early afternoon today I went to our local Target to pay my Red Card bill and get a few small items from grocery. The store was busy. There were only a few registers open. SCO was packed with a line. Staff cuts?

As the customers eviscerate the profit margin via SCO. Let it rip! Idiots. All 6 SCO's jam packed, everyone in a hurry, one attendant running their ass off,, perfect storm to do some high dollar scan skimming. A smooth operator can steal a whole lotta shit in a matter of minutes.

Last week I picked up a grocery item, one item. SCO was full, long line to get to the 6 terminals. I went to a cashier near guest services. One person on line in front of me. People are stupid.

Join the club. I work at a grocery store that often has one main line cashier and one cashier watching SCO even during the busy time of the day/week. If they need an additional cashier they have to page for the SD, ASD, or PIC (LOD) to come up and help as there is no one else to call. I am considered an all purpose (work as the assistant produce manager) and could be called to cashier, but have never been trained. Many employees in departments like meat/seafood and deli can't cashier, as they handle raw meat/seafood. I often get dirty looks while stocking our cooler with kombucha, as I am won't open another lane and sometimes I am in the customers way. I have seen so many rants on a local business rants and raves Facebook page, as customers often spend more time at the checkouts than filling up their carts. All of this started about the time our merger with another bigger food retailer was not approved. It is all about the bottom line and making the shareholders happy. Although this is at the expense of good service and thus will result in customers not returning to our store.
