MEGATHREAD Signing Tips, Tricks and Quips (along with howls of despair)

(I hate all clings, never get those straight)

Borrow a level from your SFT and make a masking tape line that is level, then bend back a 1" horizontal strip from the top of the cling, line up the top of the cling to the tape and adhere with squeegee, continue to peel back an inch at a time while moving the squeegee from the center to the left and right.

Doing it with this method I was always able to get them on straight and without bubbles.

If its the sign that goes in front of the lighted panel, the Sign #4328091. This was what was printed on our sign.

Didn't get any headers for networking or the prepaid expansion section. Got them for the camera accessories and wireless accessories. I used the wood grain panels that came off the old headphone planogram (Sign #4302702) to fill in the blank spots.

Anyone look at next months workload yet. I guess they are making up for the past two months being light. Overheads everywhere for The Shops at Target and then once that is done it goes to Summer. This year for Summer they are including giant door clings for the front doors (I hate all clings, never get those straight)

Thanks! I wasn't as smart as you were, I tossed the blanks as soon as they came down from headphones... I just ordered 6 new ones today.

Now, if they would just send clings that could be put on with windex, it would be a piece of cake! I test a corner to see if I can. If it turns white, its a no. I still spray a bit on the outside so the squeegee will slide better...

OT

I was checking my online packing list (because there wasn't one on the pallet) and realized that I am missing a tonage of items that were supposed to be on my pallet. Pink dvd player, and about 20 other ordered things that were on the list... Last week, I got a box of ordered stuff that didn't belong to this store, so I shipped it back to them. Anyone else having this type of problem lately?

I've only ever gotten a pallet for another store once.
Felt bad because you have to ship it back to central and then it gets sent to the store which means they're getting it weeks late.
I found out who the signing specialist was and called to tell them

I've got 2 pallets of furniture sitting in my fixture room for next month.
Hoping I don't have to build it all.

Your Transition Communication for furniture should have a date listed for IMPACT to come and build everything. I highly recommend you follow up on that date and contact them to come out if they fail to show. IMPACT has already been paid to assemble the furniture, if someone else does it, it's just free money to them.

IMPACT is scheduled to come to our store a week after we set furniture so the display shelves are going to be empty for a while. The Transition manual has a date on the bottom left of the first page.

In that instance, wouldn't you think it would be wise to tie the furniture planograms, set them aside for the day after they are built and get a head start on the next weeks planos?

That would be logical. I think it said in the transition manual to have it set before the furniture is built this way you can put it up once it is built. I'll what my PTL wants to do once next week's workload is done.

Myself and two others from plano are building the majority of the displays because we already set all of furniture and don't want to wait till May 6 when impact is scheduled to show. We probably build them better, anyway :p

Oh and just a plug from the electronics reset, I had two blank white headers too - I cut two pieces of the woodgrain shelfliner to fit haha, looks dandy to me :)

I love this job sometimes. Creative problem solving is a big incentive to come to work.

Good idea on the blanks.

IMHO, I wouldn't waste my time building furniture though. Time better spent repairing, cleaning, reorganizing fixture/signing room.

Unless this is the only way you are getting the hours.....

did anyone go from low gondola ipod/ipad runs back to high gondolas? technically they should be sending new cases, right? i would have just left the low signage intact if it weren't for the ipad being new and being a supergraphic for a non-lighted (or at least a tall) display. ipod is exactly as it was since instead of sending a new ipod graphic they sent the old tall ipad supergraphic in the ipod box.

ps workbench message out today - ipad should go into demo mode after turned on, however when power is cut (store closes) it does not power back on again so you should use the decal on it until a fix is made.

i was missing the paper signs for networking as well. what did everyone receive who had decks and pdvd move to short aisles? we got short cardboard headers - even though these should have the paper headers since they are low gondola and also since it backs up to the music sections - i can't remove those magnetic toppers anyway.

missing a gps paper header and also for musical instruments. did anyone else receive cardboard headers for their backwall? for the TV Deal Buy, and then for cd players? aren't we still not supposed to put any headers out if you have the red gondola toppers?

also - did anyone have HUGE spacing on their headphones planograms? gaping spaces on the planogram between rows - which of course made it so the headers didn't fit. had to move it down just to get the brackets into the top row of the standard. what height does everyone else have these? i thought they made it uniform so that the tops of the headers should be flush with the tops of the gondolas? j/w.

personally i like building furniture but technically it is a liability for the store team to build it - which is why IMPACT does it in the first place in case a guest gets injured in some way. thats why they are "supposed" to be so meticulous in keeping track of what they do or do not build.

you guys can email impact and theyll change your date. im having them come out on tuesday. we're setting all the furniture monday.

also, our sbs says he only has to secure the furniture up top. i thought he was supposed to secure all the displays? we can do it all, but it seems, just like with electronics, we do everything that's supposed to be on his list...

SFTs are REQUIRED to secure ALL furniture that extends above the top of the gondola by using the special steel braces they ship for every set. They are also responsible for making sure the lower units are secured with zip-ties. The lower units MAY be secured by the POG team, but they have to follow up behind them and verify everything. SFTs actually have a Preventative Maintenance to check on all the furniture(believe bi-monthly?), make sure they stay secured.

My SFT swears up and down that his work order says he is ONLY to secure the ones that extend above the gondola.

The transition packet, on the other hand, simply says "secure all furniture" (or something like that) under the "SFT Responsibilities" header. No distinction made between furniture that extends above the gondola and furniture that does not.

Just another case of two divisions at HQ not talking to each other to get the story straight. Nothing new.

Wrong, just another case of a LAZY TM not doing their job. When I get back into work next week, I'll give you the directions to find it on workbench. I'm an SFT now and I know my job, I'll be damned if I let another take the easy way out and just pass the buck to someone else.

When we go through furniture with my SFT my understanding was always that it is his job to secure anything that extends beyond the top of the gondola and to assist and verify the security of the rest of the furniture (ie: if it just normal there is no reason why the planogram team shouldn't be able to secure the furniture as they put it up - the SFT will come around and verify that these are secured or assist if needed). Essentially there is no reason not to secure the furniture you put up - it take two seconds to put a bracket up - the team shouldn't dump it all on the SFT.

Our SFT secures everything.
We still haven't got the email from Impact and we start setting Monday.
Fun, fun, fun.

LOL! Mule, the way you worded this, you could be siding either way. LOL!

My understanding for the past couple decades and with a dozen sfts is they are responsible for the furniture that extends above. If plano can secure it easily, they do, but if it is something that requires some carefully angled holes drilled in the piece, the sft will assist.

Sorry, was letting something else earlier rush my venting on this. The instruction on this was clearly spelled out that Plano TMs could "ASSIST" the SFT in securing the furniture, but that it was ultimately the SFT's responsibility in making sure it was all done correctly one way or another. In other words, even if someone else does it, the SFT has to follow behind and double check or it's the SFT's @$$ on the line if someone gets hurt. Like I said before though, this falls under us as we have a routinely occurring Preventative Maintenance workorder to double check that everything is secure throughout the year.

If anyone is ever interested in what a SFT is responsible for, the quickest way to peak inside is to log into workbench and access "Facilities Management" under the quicklinks area.

.

Usually we would build the furniture ourselves but this time there is a lot of furniture (about two pallets worth). Also Impact is being paid to build this furniture and I am not going to do their job for them.

it's not that we're drawing a line refusing... it's just that for the last several transitions, i see all these notes saying he's supposed to secure something, or move a display (like bose) or whatever, and he ALWAYS has a reason he can't do it. it boils down to my team is awesome and knows what to do, and he always says he's so glad of it so we can do it. we can't wait for him to do some of these things in 2 weeks when i plainly talk to him and say we're doing it on this day and i need him. he says i can fill out a request if it really bugs me.

Mule would be the expert here, but check his workload. I'm pretty sure he had a work order to do the Bose display. Not good if he is signing off on things he didn't complete....
We mess with our sft about the time spent staring at a computer screen, but he seems to get everything done that he needs to AND he even helped with some of the TV moves we made this week.

SFTs had Field Projects in the system to handle all the large display moves in the Electronics Transition recently. All the lockup moves, swapping out the Ipad display, Sonos, Beats by Dr. Dre and Bose display unit moves and making sure power is correctly run to everything. I'm not saying the SFTs can't work in a partnership with their fellow TMs in their individual store to handle some of these, we all need to work together to get the jobs done, just that people should be aware of who is ultimately responsible for certain projects in a store and not let people dump things on other teams to get an easy pass on their own workload.

I moved almost all of the cases. I knew where they went and it was easy to quickly move them. Our SFT can not come in before 4am, so I couldn't wait for him to get there. I did not plug any of them in, left all that up to him.

One problem I have. He refuses to put the case to gondola locks on. Says there is no reason to. ????? I ain't doing that for him.

Finished building the remaining 5 or so displays today as it's my weekend on (I work every other weekend with one other Plano TM, just had her do some revisions for next week and then she worked the truck) and secured everything (yeah I know how to use a drill). I don't see it as taking the SFT's workload, just that I'm doing what needs to be done. Now he can spend his time doing other stuff.
