MEGATHREAD Signing Tips, Tricks and Quips (along with howls of despair)

Also, you're spot on about HQ having no idea how to manage projects they send efficiently. It's made so much worse at my store because early February, just before the big personal care set, I was caught up and doing great. I had all this time to do side projects and clean up, and I could walk through the fixture room unimpeded. Then all these big sets come up and all the pog people are working on stuff and there's still other pog stuff to do that they shove onto my plate. It's like the people planning this out at my store don't realize that when pog is busy, I'm also very busy, and that it does no good to give me all this signing time when nothing is going on, and it's even worse when you pull me away when there actually is something going on.

It makes me more angry than anything else. I've long lost the ability to get stressed out by Target's nonsense. Just mad. They go through a whole process of giving me this position, training me, letting me barely get used to it, and then not let me do it at all.

I'd like to add that all the hours are really helping my bank account, and that's basically the only reason I can tolerate any of this.

Wow, so the signing ninja has to do revisions and sales planners in your store?
I'm sorry @Unintended BM I really don't see how you get anything done.

Those are somebody elses job completely.
I did some when I had extra time but that was -extra- time, not all the time.

I'm going to talk to the PTL, and probably some ETLs or the STL about this next time I'm able. It's not right to expect me to do a job that I'm given no time to do.

We give my signing TM how ever many signing hours are on the adjacency calendar. If she gets caught up she will help us on POG or do some revisions. I never ask her to do any plano work if she isn't caught up with her stuff.

Our signing girl gets 40 no matter what. Where those hours come from depends. It's always listed under signing but I'm assuming some weeks the hours come from other workcenters.

Must be, for years I was getting a regular 38 but when they decided to performance me they gave me only what the signing hours allowed.
At that point the job became increasingly more and more difficult.

I get 40 signing hours a week, however no one is ever schefuled for ad prep so I need to do that.

I do the ad prep at my store, I'll bet since you do that in addition to your signing duties that all of your relevant signs get used.

I have a problem in my store that the Pog team doesn't go through the unlocated signs that weren't set the previous week even though I set them aside so they can be put up once the Pogs become relevant.

What do you do to make sure they get used? I.E. I have a lot of Beauty signs that were not tied for this weeks set 3/1 - 3/7 when I was sorting it last week. I usually don't discover that they are untouched until I get my signing hours later in the week (sometimes Friday). Then it's too late to even bother putting it up.

@COninja

I try to locate the signs into the old planos. So if A1 is geeting set next week with a pog of 1087CAT, I will try to locate the 108CAT signs under the old pog 107CAT so they get put up on Sunday. That way the signs are up at the start.

@Signkitty

I do that sometimes, unless the pre-printed section-shelf-spot is way off. For instance, the old one is 5-3-4.007 and the new one is 1-3-6. Also, there is a lot of new product for the Beauty reset, which is a true NO LOC until plano sets it.

The ad prep person who trained me didn't want me to cross out the new shelf location and write in the current one, but I run into that problem where it never gets put up and the signing TM gets cross that they had to print out a billion signs.

I was separating the Pogs with rubber bands and grouping them by type with a clear note about which block it belongs too, but they almost never go looking for it.

Even though it's outside of my comfort zone, I think I'll just lightly cross out the new location and pencil in the old one with the hopes that they will not pitch them during their reset/revision.

TL;DR

Thanks for the advice!

@COninja

The only thing to look for if they are way off is to see if it's a Sales Planner. I can normally tell because the locations are all in section one and I know crackers and penut butter are not in the aisle together.

True, I usually mark those with "endcap." My Beauty division was full of similarly numbered Pogs all starting with the same schematic except for the last 2 numbers. I had a huge stack (1/4 of a waco) leftover that would have taken forever to re-number for Beauty alone, so since I had a Monday ad shift I handed them to the Plano TL so his team could actually put them up this time. I guess I'll peek at his desk on Thursday to see if they are matching it up with the aisles after they are tied. I'll try to peek at his sales plannners for the endcaps though. They are usually not set by Sunday.

I even sort through last weeks signs when I get a new box in, and if a sign isn't expired, I add it into my No Locs and research it again. Is this overkill?

We do that at our store...doing ad prep, we write down the new location on the sign, and throw it in with the aisle it goes to. When plano goes to set, we are expected to pull all the ad signs off, and put them all back up. As long as we can read what the new printed location is, no problem.

If it's for new POGs that got set that week and the signs didn't get put up, they will put them up on Thursday/Friday when they walk the store.

At that point the job became increasingly more and more difficult.

I usually get what the adjacency and the monthly signing update calls for, plus a few extra hours to do other signing responsibilities. The rest of my hours are filled up doing plano, revisions, ad prep/set when the workload is large, or other workcenters. If I need more hours for a project, I talk with my TL/ETL.

How many of you were told that signing was a guaranteed 32+ hour a week position when they got the position?

I was told the position was a guaranteed 24 hours plus two days on presentation. I am usually scheduled four days on signing and one on presentation. But when it comes down to it, I get 4 to 8 hours on a typical week on signing and the rest is spent on plano and revisions.

The new hair appliance sign holders are a joke. I mean, really, I think someone at HQ is laughing... "Lets send them signholders without bottoms in them..."

I'll just have to use the usual jumbo glue stick on all of them....

Does anyone know what's the deal with the LED lights under the shelves in HBA? In my signing pallet I got two lights, one transformer, and one cable. When I should have about 20 LED lights. My PMT asked me about it but according to him, there wasn't any communication at his end.

@Inigma

I had 5 lights for the professional hair aisle, one a section to go under shelf five. I also got six transformers and wires.

My PMT had no info on it, but the transition manual sad pog/signing was to do the install and PMT did cord keeping

I had 5 lights as well, one under shelf 5 in section 5, and one under shelves 4,5, and 6 in section 4. But all of that could be done with one cord and one transformer so I don't understand why they sent so many of them.

What new hair appliance sign holders?

IIRC the lights also went on the POG with Loreal/Garnier Fructis, and Dove. At least it did at my store.
