Interesting....I'll be eager to see what they consider "specialist" positions....

During a meeting today this term was used multiple times in hiring needs categorization. Sbux was one of those mentioned. But other than that I'm curious too!

Trying to figure out if I'll be making more or the same and it looks like it'll depend on how the paygrades work out.

If paygrades change to where Flow is knocked down to lowest payroll, I won't get jack.

If Flow ends up in the second paygrade, I'll get something like a 10-20 cent pay raise.

Is this going to be implemented all at once? Will all stores get the pay raise next month? Or is there a schedule of sorts?

Brian gets to pat himself on the back and enjoy the good PR of saying "look, we're raising the minimum wage!" The only thing that would truly help employees would be to raise wages ACROSS THE BOARD, so that long-timers don't get screwed. But that would mean Brian can only afford 4 yachts this year instead of 5.

^failed economics.

Not necessarily, to go along with moving towards $15/hr over the next few years, Spot is also changing the pay grades. We are cutting 8 pay grades down to 4, going n30, 35, 40, and 45. I don't know the exact split, but would assume it would be something like this:
n30- base level jobs, ie. cashier, cart attendant, service desk, salesfloor, etc.
n35- specialist positions, style, beauty, electronics, maybe logistics, etc.
n40- Team leads
n45- Sr. Team leads

I dont believe the difference between the team member positions will be a great difference like some of the pay grades now, maybe only an increase of .50¢

This is only meaningful if all positions get an increase. A TL should not be 25 cents over a specialist. A SR. should not be 25 cents above a TL.

What is that???

Captainships is something you're in charge of/responsible for. Like for example your captainship can be equipment (audit, ship out, fix, etc).

Our minimum wage should be rasing to $13/hr. I always hate how the vets get screwed by this.

If the increase is $1.00 more over base pay than last year, then (the right thing to do) is bump up all TMs by $1.00. I mean, the base increase is Targets idea. It is not a forced increase....so if Target has made the choice to add the extra base pay then everyone ought to be able to get an increase. So far I've gotten screwed on both increases so I expect to get screwed again.

What I'm really interested in seeing is how Target is going to explain what will happen to veteran TMs. My guess is that they'll do their best to ignore the issue and hope that it goes away.

At our store today the STL said that the increase begins with new hires as of October 1.

I've got two captainships right now. All it gets me is 60+hrs of work that need to fit in 40ish hrs of time. Probably won't even get me consideration for a promotion.

So if I’m reading this right, everyone hired after October 1st will have a higher base pay? That’s annoying lol I read everywhere on here that Target is supposed to pay over minimum wage but I make minimum wage

Can't wait to see how vets get fucked over this time. Me, myself, would love the extra $1 an hour to make me at $11.25, would it be nice for a little bit more? Since I've been here for two years? I mean, yeah. But I'm technically still on the same level as all other Target Starting Wage. I'm keyed in as a cashier working higher pay grade work centers, lmao I'm kind of already getting spiffed here with a cashier shift only every two weeks but I'm still considered a cashier. Thank God backpay exists.

Okay, what if you already make above that? What does that mean? I’m at around 11.75, been with spot for two years.
Traditionally, if you were over the base, you didn't see any increase unless the base pay for your pay grade went up to coincide with the bump.

No, everyone gets the raise. The press release and news articles highlight the part that seasonals also are included because Target is trying to attract more applicants.

If you are currently at $10.25 and are keyed as a cashier, you'll get 75 cents.

Captain is a made up title that means you do more work and have higher expectations set for the same pay.
Eh. Owning something as a team member can lead to recognition and further development. Hell, I captained the C&S process as a AM BRTM. I've developed a team member that I had own salesplans and endcaps in beauty and another I had own everything Steritech. If you can help them find the time to take care of some tasks, it'll help them learn some of the workload that you as a TL are expected to complete. Statuses to go over their work and further develop them. Eventually you get them interview ready and hopefully they get on the bench.

If someone isn't willing to take on a little more responsibility, I'm not going to help them promote.

In another strain, some team members may not want to promote but may be tired of what they're doing and want to do more. It's not uncommon.

If it means more work or responsibility, then there ought to be more pay.

And I would reword the last paragraph to say " .... may be tired of what they're doing and want to do something different." But not more. Not for zero extra pay.

But that is the game Target plays. You want to promote, well, run the backroom for 3 months while the tl is out for surgery, then we MIGHT promote you. Extra pay? Lol.

So you do your job well? What sets you apart you apart from everyone else that does your job well? Why should you be promoted over someone doing the same job as you, just as well? Captaining something can be seen as a trial for taking on more responsibility. Should the TM interested in development get paid more because they're being developed?
Should a flow team member that's picked up hours on the sales floor be paid less for that time because sales floor is a lower pay grade? Pay is equal to work done, right?

That happened to me the first time I worked at Target. I was making $7.75/hr as a regular TM hired in October. The seasonals hired later in Oct. started out at $9/hr. I didn't get bumped up to $9 until my review several months later.

Consider yourself lucky. I have one of those ETLs that finds one TL and gives everything to him/her. I have every captainship besides one. I'm constantly toying with overtime, because of this.

If they don't consider you for a promotion they'll understand their bad choice when they hear rumors of you leaving. They'll bend over backwards to keep you. Happens all the time.

OT: I also heard that Target pays a certain amount over min wage, but here I think they actually pay min wage. Used to be that way before it started going up every year, now they pay exactly min wage.

Actually there is no explanation.

No, your raise will kick in October 1st too

We all know what is going to happen. They will raise the hourly rate but cut hours . If Spot is going to spend out more per hour on payroll they are going to get that money back some how. Hours get cut then guess what ? You have tms who wont qualify for benefits any longer . IMO as a long term tm ( 20 plus years) it makes me uneasy. Yes, I don't like it that someone fresh off the streets would be making the same thing I am( when the 15 goes into effect) . The long term tms will be getting screwed on this upfront but I have a feeling most tms will be getting screwed in the long run.

Okay, what if you already make above that? What does that mean? I’m at around 11.75, been with spot for two years.

Doubtful you would get a raise. You make more than the 11.50 minimum for your position.
