This did not happen to me but a coworker .
He was scheduled 2 hours on the printed schedule at a time that went against his availability.

Now, he should have gone to the HR ETL and said something about.

Instead, he just didn't show up.

The next day, he was asked about it. He asked why he would be scheduled 2 hours when he thought the rule was you couldn't work or be scheduled less than 3.

The answer ... Oh, you could have worked those two hours and gotten paid for 3 hours.

Really? I highly doubt that would happen. I really doubt they would just automatically pay you for 3 hours and only have you work two.

I've always heard that they HAVE to pay you for 3hrs if they schedule you for anything under 3.

I'm not sure if that is still enforced if a TM voluntarily leaves though (goes home sick or something)

That's true from what I know, but I didn't think stores actually scheduled TMs less than 3 hours. I've never even seen anyone scheduled less than 4.

As HR I can confirm this is true. Your state may vary. We once called in a TM to term them, we had to pay them 3 hours.

I feel like shame on your scheduler for allowing that. What work center? The computer flags shifts shorter than 4 hours, as someone around 30 minutes from my store in rush hour, to go in for 3 hours and have to spend an hour commuting its just not worth it.

This happened to me and our store PMT recently. He came in to walk with the Overnight Construction crew and only stayed for an hour and did a punch correction for it, since he wasn't scheduled at all.

I stopped in for an hour on a Sunday to plan out the week and did a punch correction. We were both then explained to that we will be getting paid for 3 hours, regardless of how long we were there. It was not expressed to us in a pleasant way, so I will not be doing THAT again. At least they didn't ask us to stay later after a shift to make up those 2 hours. So BONUS pay for me and the PMT!

I was always told that you couldn't be scheduled for a shift less than four hours, but that could just be some weird law in my state. That, or my HR just tells people that to cover their own asses.

I think it depends on state law, but they do have to pay you for a minimum of three hours, even if you worked for only 30 minutes
you might be right, I remember orientation being like 45 minutes , but I got paid for three

My store loves that 3 & 1/2hr shifts they don't give a break to you when hours are short.. I throw them on the swap board cause they are not worth the gas & time I spend on the road.

I've had to do work related things on my off days and I only had to punch however long I did things for. If I had to punch 3 hours for every little thing I did while not scheduled I would have to cut so much

Your state law dictates whether you work for x but get paid for y. However in my 3 hour call in state if I choose to leave before the end of 3 hours because my work is done then I do not receive 3 hours. Target can ask me to work outside of my work center if they want to make sure they get their 3 hours worth out of me.

Three is the minimum shift. Four is the minimum per week

Legally a 3 hour shift gets a 15 minute break. But yes Target is well known for scheduling tms 5.75 so they don't hit 6 and get that extra break lol.

Like HR Zone, I also confirm that this is true. Whenever a TM's time card shows that they came in for a scheduled shift that was under 3 hours, I add the difference to their time card to make sure that they get the minimum pay required by the state. There is a code that we can use to do this.

If a TM is scheduled above the minimum hours but leaves before working the minimum hours, then they do not get paid the difference. However, they can use sick hours to get paid if it was for a legit reason (i.e. sick, emergency, etc).

This is true. The minimum hours vary by state. I believe that most states have a four-hour minimum. Then, there are specific states that have a different amount. For example, California only has a three-hour minimum.

Your stop doesn't let you use sick time when you want? thats bs/ We can use it whenever to pad out our hours or use it like vacation

Again it depends on your local laws. Its sick pay, some only allow you to use it when you call out sick. If you want to pad that's what vacation is for.

If you leave early, you don't get the 3 hrs pay? My ETL made a flow TM that finished early stay because they (and I) didn't know that.

I forgot this was the case, when I got called in one Saturday to bail my ETL out after a Giant truck, they didn't care it meant overtime $$ for me. I literally went in for 2 hours, cleaned house on backstock, then left, so I got paid for working a little less than a full day, for two hours of work. 😎

Depending on state law. If you voluntarily decide that you don't want to stay no you don't get paid for 3 hours.
