I heard a rumor that only one internal was hired out of my entire group for VML....

My store is opening up positions for brand TM's in softlines and hardlines. Does anyone know if these will fall under VML or salesfloor TLs?

Brand TMs will be under vml. Well, when they're scheduled there. My store they get scheduled in sl and in VM. Well, crrently they're being scheduled under training when they're expected to be focusing on brand stuff.

I was approached to apply for one of these positions, so I was hoping I'd keep my current TL since we work well together doing adjacency & POGs in SL. My guess is that I for sure will have nothing to do with the adjacency anymore so this is a way to fill those hours? I dunno.

We've always had unofficial brand TMs, so they weren't really asked to move into the positions. I'm not a brand tm, but from what I understand from conversations with one, those who are will still be doing the adjacency, but when they need guidance on something they'll go to vml. There's no way one person could do all the adjacencies when 5 were doing it before vml position existed... And still not always finishing it.

I guess if the TLs will now be zoning and doing reshop primarily, adjacencies will be easier to finish. Maybe less responsibility will make my tl less stressed and she'll become easy breezy. Besides from what I hear of tl pay, they all do too damn much, anyway.

just out of curiousity how far in the interviews did you go? ETL/STL/DTL? Usualy the DTL will trust what the STL and ETL both want and do a formal interview. If the DTL says now its usually because the person didnt interview well or didnt have the support. My ETL and STL really wanted me for the position and the DTL was aware of what I have done at my store so I got it with no VM degree whatsoever, heck I even beat out candidates with VM degrees lol.
Interviewed with HR and STL. The person who got it is an internal that has worked with me on the IS team and has been with Target for 4 years. She had not applied and they sort of hunted her down. I can't complain, though. I think she'll do a good job. (She actually has a VM degree. I don't think that degree existed when I was in school! lol)

Being a Brand TM is fun...or it was until little miss "what are you doing on the floor?" arrived. You generally get left alone. There are days where I'm not even sure who the LOD is.

Softlines will still have tables etc to do though so maybe you'll get shifted to that side of things though. Personally I wouldn't want anything to do with these talentless hacks they are bringing in. Its as bad as the straight out of college etls they are bringing in.

That's what I'm afraid of. I'm knowledgeable in adjacencies and POGs in SL as I currently set them, but know that if I have to train someone getting paid almost 2x as much as me, I'm going to feel resentful. Also, the area I told I would be responsible for was shoes or accessories. I was hoping I'd still be helping with adjacencies, but from what I was told, I'd have one brand TM shift per week, so it seems unlikely. I guess we'll see!

Ours doesn't know what AP is or does. And she doesn't understand zoning. It's like raising a toddler.

I am really glad I found this thread. I applied for this job a few weeks or so ago. I just got a call today to do an interview on Monday. I am a former Target employee. I have worked as a cashier, sales floor, and flow team. I was going for a degree in graphic design but I have switched majors. I am not sure what to expect but reading this thread has made me a bit nervous heh. I will let you know how it goes.

That's the way I'm feeling. I'm tempted to tell my etl, nope I don't want anything to do with visual merch at all and wash my hands of that process. Bringing in straight from college folks with no real work experience pfft. Atleast with ETLs it looks good when you say hey I trained so and so and their replacement after they quit in six months.

I agree with ya its not a fun experience especially if you've been doing it for awhile. Yep but my problem with that is will they stand on their own two feet or go hey so and so come do this work for me while VML takes all the credit.

I probably sound extremely bitter but its frustrating to have it sound like oh they have a piece of paper that says they have more experience then you but you've been dealing with that process and know what the company is looking for unlike those externals. I'm going to be happy to take bets on how long till these externals apply somewhere else or quit cause they actually have to work.

Oh, ours will be quitting almost immediately. She came in wearing heels yesterday, and whn she saw me on my knees today was disgusted. I tried to explain that being on the lfoor at least once a day is fairly normal, but she cringed and all but ran away from me.

I heard the talk from some other TMs today...

So all the sl brand people don't like the vm. My tl was training her on VAs yesterday and she felt like the vml is acting as if she's her supervisor lol... And it's driving the tl crazy. Apparently at one point yesterday, tl goes oh I have to get fixtures from the fixture room and suggested the vml go too. Vml didn't wanna go, so she didn't lol. From what I hear, her experience is at some semi-highend clothing retailers. I assume she's not gonna be into the dirty work, or the hardlines parts. Doubt she'll last long. She was on the schedule to work tonight and she wasn't there, sooo... Maybe she's already sick of it.

Idk, based on all the talk I've heard, I'm just glad I shouldn't have too much interaction with her.

I feel like the VM-TLs were told that their position is higher than it is.

Good riddance to those who can't cut it.

My store is pretty adamant about an external. There are a couple internal who would be capable though.

Our store did an internal & she says they STILL haven't given her the full scoop.
I told her to log on here & start reading.

They did the interviews, got the job. You are pg 17, doing mannequins & adj in soft lines. They is all they told them.
Same thing happened to a TL in my district. She interviewed, got the job w/ no degree, told her it was a pg17 gave her a $3 raise. Told her she might get 1 day of training. No information on the job at all.
