I've gone almost as far as I can as a regular TM, but I don't want to become a leader. What's a normal day/week like for PMLs?

Mon-Friday , usually 6am-2:30 PM
Required to work some weekends (like 3 a year)
Typical day starts with:
Checking email for store/bp/vendor coms
Checking work order app for store request.
Workload is assigned two weeks ahead, which means you can always work ahead.
Walk the store, first impresssions, autodoors etc.
Walk the restrooms,
Check in with House keeping.
Do any PMs/CMs that you want done before store opens.
Do an exterior walk.
Check equipment control.
Check hvac/refrigiration/compactor portal
Update log notes on work orders as you get updated info
Meet and direct vendors
Attend zoom calls
Do your business walks(5 a week)
Create follow-up CMs
Respond to real time store requests
Receive parts
Order parts

I am probably forgetting some stuff, but put in a chatbot and Ill get to it when I can.

You basically work for a tablet and a boss that might visit you every two weeks

Don’t have to worry about “servicing the guest “ too much, they don’t approach you as much because of the gray

You get high quality target paid uniform
Pants, shirts, shoes, belts, jackets, glasses

Super fun job, good to have some technical know how.
You typically become very close to other PMLs in the district.
It is a solitary job, you might feel unrecognized and unappreciated

Lmk if you have any more questions.

PML (depending on the individual) can be a store's most valued asset or a frustrating pain in the ass.
My store has had both but the previous & current ones are worth their weight in gold.
We're an older store so they have a lot on their plate in terms of work orders & maintenance (repair vs replace).

Agree. Our current one is terrific, the one before was lazy and did just enough to get by. The one we have now is responsive and helpful.
And because it can be easy to take a good PML for granted, I make sure to say thank you. There are certain people you want on your side and the PML is one of them.

Our PML is a great asset to the store. He has been there since the store opened and knows all there is to know about the building. Cool guy, too, always helpful and reliable. Store leadership had him help with crowd control back when we had those massive Black Friday lines. He always had a smile and was friendly to the crowd, but you could just tell he wasn’t about to take any guff from anybody, and he didn’t, either. He never seemed too stressed, even before visits, he just came to work and did his thing. He has a pretty thorough knowledge of electrical, plumbing and general repairs, but for major problems the store calls in a plumber or electrician.
I think the worst parts of his job were when he had to change the bulbs and ballasts in the backroom lights on the Wave, which looked repetitive and boring, and when he had to repair the backroom shelf uprights after someone bent them with the Wave. No smile on uprights repair day for sure, and if our PML found out who bent the upright, they wouldn’t be smiling, either.😂
From outside observation, PML seems like one of Spot’s lower stress jobs.

I am a PML, so yeah..
When you type it all out, it seems pretty daunting to get all of that done each week. I imagine it gets a little easier once you settle into a routine though.

You've got a ton of experience and wisdom when it comes to Target, so how would you say PML compares to the different TL roles?

You also mentioned becoming close with the other PMLs in the district, but how's your relationship with the store team usually? Do you find yourself being asked to help out with the store given your experience?

It does get easy, just like with anything else.
PML is the best PG45 position at Target, if you are a technical person, self motivated and don’t mind being solitary.
You don’t report to the store, you partner with all leaders in the building. You see your direct boss (pmbp) every ~2 weeks

I always keep the store at arms length, I do not get cozy with SDs , ETLs or TLs. I want to be able to challenge them when necessary.
Our relationship is very professional.

I have set expectations with the store team. I don’t ask them unclog the toilet, change roof filters, ceiling tiles, floor tiles etc, and they don’t ask me to push/pull/pick.
