If everyone makes a livable wage, there's no reason to better yourself with school and/or specialized training. Giving everyone a livable wage even for crappy low end jobs will fail for the same reason socialism does.
Why would someone be a paramedic if they can do a much easier job for the same pay?
Really?
So if you can survive, not starve, make basic rent, keep the lights on, not have to live with four other people, etc, that means you will work at Target for the rest of your life?
Sure, I guess there might be some slackers who would be willing to work jobs like that but you know what, so what?
If someone works 40 hours a week at what point should they not be able to pay their bills?
When I worked at the grocery store as a meat cutter there were cashiers who worked at the store who worked there all their life, who put their kids through school, made house payments, and car payments.
Can you imagine a cashier at Target being able to do that?
People go to school or get specialized training because they want to better themselves.
It's human nature to want to make ourselves better, to advance ourselves.
Parents push their kids to be better then them, or to carry on traditions.
It's not what you're going to get paid that makes people advance themselves.
